Stress Relief

Chasing cars

You know what it’s like when you’re watching a high-speed car chase in a movie?

And I’m not talking about the type of movie where this type of activity is anticipated, like when the character is a getaway driver for a bank heist. I’m talking about a movie where the car chase is, well, an accident.

Our heroes frantically hurtle through the streets, causing chaos and calamity in their wake, their only concern being their own survival. And then they manage to get away — but only just! That’s the moment I’m talking about…

That beautiful moment when the character/characters realise the danger has passed, and that everything is going to be alright!

They experience a great rush of relief!

A release!

A feeling that they’re invincible.

Absolute euphoria.

When was the last time you experienced this sensation in your own body? Or, even something vaguely similar to this? If you’re anything like the clients I meet — the fact that you’re ‘blanking’ right now speaks volumes.

Most of my clients at OOMPH can’t even imagine what it feels like to experience calm, let alone that feeling of relief/release/invincibility/euphoria. 🫣

Stress Relief/Sweet Release

Unfortunately, many of us never get the opportunity to experience what I call ‘sweet release’ purely because our car chase scene — our real life stress — never ends! It’s relentless. We never stop feeling like something is chasing us. We never feel like we’ve reached safety.

I noticed this years ago while observing my clients at OOMPH. I tend to always give my stressed or anxious clients a wee shot of Kava or Passionflower at their appointment to help calm them. And as a result of this, I’ve actually had a few clients either get tearful, or start giggling, as the medicinal herb enables their ‘sweet release’ from the strong clutches of stress and tension.

(Hmm, are you starting to see a pattern with my use of metaphors in regards to acute and chronic stress…?! 🫣)
